This has lead to a fragmentation in the process with little continuity and low productivity development. To manage this problem, the building industry are often using “ad-hoc” solutions necessary to customize the house according to customers needs. \\ **Modularization** \\ Can be described as “Decomposition of a product into building blocks (modules) with specified interfaces, driven by company - specific reasons”. End product can vary in shape and functions, but the design and production of components and modules within a product family are the same. Arranging the main assembly station with several short module assembly lines makes the production shorter lead-time. It can reduce components in stock with less capital assets in use. I believe that in order to start modularize the building system it is essential to have the market niche truly defined. My philosophy is that all building systems can't be the same, and you need to have that in mind when you are developing a new building system. **Product customization** \\ Products can have different views depending on which information that is essential, and all view needs to be connected with each other, otherwise problem must be solved using ad-hoc solutions. To organize the product model it can be useful to modularize the building system so the solutions that the customer wants are tightly connected to the engineering view and production view. This is one of many reasons why I'm interested in using parametric design in the adaption of modular building components to the product model, and the possibility to re-use of parts in the structure. In the picture below some screen shots from solid works are showed, that I'm working with in a research and development project of tall buildings with the structural framework made of wood (http://www.traplattform.se). | {{:patrik:solid_works.jpg?300|Wall element}} |
