Christina and Ben's Bus Stop Enclosure

Description of design drivers / goals

  • Goal 1 - Create a bus stop that can regulate temperature.
  • Goal 2 - Create a bus stop with comfortable and adequate passenger space.
  • Goal 3 - Create a bus stop that is adaptable to a variety of sites.

Parameters

Occupancy, Sidewalk Width

  • Occupancy: 10 people, Width: 5 m
  • Occupancy: 30 people, Width: 4 m

Temperature

  • 50°
  • 100°

Site Slope

  • 10°

Street Curb Linearity

  • Curvy
  • Straight

Wind Strength

  • 0 mph
  • 30 mph

Sun Elevation, Azimuth (Roof)

  • Based on the sun azimuth and two sun elevations (depicted by the sun rays)

Shading Height

  • The blue plane is the height which the roof shades inside the enclosure
  • 0 m
  • 1 m
  • 3 m

The Sun

  • Rotates around the site (azimuth) and along the arc (elevation)

Roof Outtakes

Lessons Learned

  • Rendering and shading are difficult
  • Providing shade is difficult too
  • Name everything (planes, sketches, extrusions, projections, etc.) as you work
  • Use yEd for logic diagraming
  • Everything takes time

Nice solution on the modular roof design. The shadow solution looks great - I'll be interested to see how well it works in the animated process.
