Standardized Design Process
The main difference between industrialized and traditional ways of construction is found in the aspiration of standardizing repetitive tasks and controlling quality of the process. A lot of efforts have been made within production; moving prefabrication of elements inside factories, deploying robotics and lifting devices at the construction site, standardization of available modifications and styles of the product. These efforts have proven to be profitable and therefore are other companies willing to continue with this progress. One natural step is to work further with standardization of the process.
Since the design process tends to be the bottleneck for further streamlining of the entire manufacturing process for many industrial construction companies, this project explores the possibilities of implementing Lean Production principles into the design process.
The aim of the project is reduce the time for the design phase by 50% as well as widen the scope on theories regarding reoccurring design processes.
