Luleå Class

This is the start page for the Luleå class. Should contain introductions to the class, the wiki sections and some words on….

Nice having you here!

It was great meeting you all up here in Luleå! I have created a page about the examination. Visit it and take part of the information and discuss if you like.

Nice with winter!

…at least for three days. It was however an awesome task to get up to Luleå from foggy autumn-like Skåne-land. After spending like 22.5 hours traveling it was like going to the North Pole this time, due to the snow storm. At the time meeting up for our course I however experienced the same warm atmosphere as always. Thank you for a great course, even though I may be hard on you not grasping the computing stuff as fast as many of the others. But especially this UML/SysML-stuff is something I realize I must learn, as it enables me to focus on my project intentions and formulate requirements on my CAD-programs in a logical, coherent way - without dealing to much with the computing behind. So I'll struggle on…

For you that still need real basics, follow this UML basic tutorial: http://www.gentleware.com/fileadmin/media/synergy/Course/index.htm ..then you might want to advance to …http://dn.codegear.com/print/31863 then it's for some of us easier to grasp our course literature. I'll return to the Parametric Design NX and Knowledge space engineering later. This is out in space yet…

Damn this snow!

After a rather shaky start with lots of delayed flights and some people waiting at the airport in Stockholm for nearly 12 hours we are now up and running. The first day we spent on an introductory workshop in UML/SysML which probably left you a bit confused but hopefully has provided you with a starting-point for further exploration application.

The next two days will be spent on Siemens NX CAD learning a bit of parametric CAD and Knowledge Based Engineering. The tutorial material can be found here: CAD Assignments

UML & SysML for MS Visio

Hello, dear friends! I was very pleased about our trip to SF and Stanford!!! Now when my jet lag is attacking me like a rattlesnake, Google becomes my guard to not fall a sleep again. I found this link and have tested some symbols and diagrams. http://softwarestencils.com/ It works OK! I have Visio 2003 and both SysML & UML is working if you follow the instructions on the download page. This is how it looks like if you install the package.

Try it!

Good news

…to hear that the trip was beneficial. It has been exciting to browse through the Wiki and read about your thoughts and ideas of parametric. Looking forward to seeing you all in Sweden.

What a pleasure

…it has been to have you all here. These past days have been full of interesting discussions and promises a lot for the future. I'm especially excited about the way UML seems to make sense in all your projects and think we will have a lot of fun and see some interesting outcome from the course. It is also great to have so many interesting people come together in a group and I believe your varied backgrounds and perspectives complement each other nicely. Very much looking forward to seeing you all in Luleå in November.

John Haymaker

We heard John Maymaker do a quick talk about his work at CIFE and I believe his work is relevant to many of you. Papers written by CIFE people, including John: CIFE Publications. John's email: haymaker@stanford.edu

Some thoughts from foggy Luleå

As I really don't know how to use the Wiki, I will just try whatever and see what works. Thank you for the nice photos from US west coast. Luleå has +2 C and foggy weather today. We miss you dearly - the corridor is empty without you. I hope that you learn new stuff constantly, you can sleep when you're back in Sweden.

I work together with John on finalising his licentiate thesis on experience feedback right now. I notice that the Wiki could be a tool to gather experiences, the only thing bothering me is the computer skills with the workers at our companies. Something to think about.
