Backgroud

I come from Poland and I completed my Master education in structural engineering at Gdansk University of Technology. The last year of my studies I spent at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden where I also did my Master thesis about integral abutment bridges in cooperation with consulting company Ramböll Sverige AB. After completing my studies I started to work in Ramböll as CAD-designer in bridge department and I spent there one and half year until I decided to come back to timber engineering that was always my big interest but never had opportunity to extend my knowledge about it.

My research
Model of a simple house on B&P system, scale 1:5
In March 2007 I started to work on the PhD project in Timber Engineering Department at LTU and I am one of the students belonging to the Competence Center of Lean Wood Engineering. Within my project I cooperate with company Moelven Töreboda AB that produces glulam and the aim of the project is to develop a building beam and post system for multistory houses utilizing the properties of glulam.
The main method that I use in my work is FEM based structural analysis. Some of the problems that I try to solve in my work are stability of the multi-storey timber house, anchorage of stabilizing walls and optimal connections between beams and post.

However since the system in this shape is being created from scratch there is many problems on the side that need to be solved with other methods, for instance we continuously work on the assembly method with the use of paper models.

I hope that parametric design will be one of the associated methods used for developing the beam and post system in glulam for multi-storey buildings.

Here comes the parametric problem:
