REFLECTIONS

While watching the work of students from Stanford I realized that using the approach of parametrization awakes a directed creativity, which, I believe, must be extremely useful in architectural design (and surely not only). One of the great advantages of parametric design in my opinion is easier creation of larger number of models/solutions than in the case of traditional design, when only some variants are created. I am not sure if I express myself clearly, but I see a parametrization as a powerful design tool/approach.

The “Scratch pad” of mine shows that, especially in the beginning, I decide which problem I want to parametrize and I directly concentrated on finding out a way to define a geometry of the building and on identifying nodes (that would be kind of base function in the application). For trying to implement the idea I chose Matlab, because this is a software I worked relatively most with…and it appeared that I did not manage to create the application.

The idea I suppose is good and worth giving a thought, but it would be a large project and not possible for me to implement within my PhD project. Hopefully the idea will not die and hopefully I will remember about very useful parametric approach during my further work with B&P system.
